What is ATI's LCD Overdrive and Should you use it on a LCD TV?
ATI LCD Overdrive is basically a software attempt at faking a faster refresh rate on an LCD panel. When a pixel is changing its state or colour, LCD Overdrive forces a pixel to change its state earlier than it should by upping the voltage to each liquid crystal. Each LCD manufacturer has a similar algorithm for achieving this effect and Most LCD TV's can do similar in hardware allowing the use of some extreme response rate claims LCD overdrive is not to be confused with Samsung's Motion plus or Sony's Motion Flow which inserts artificial frames between each standard frame. The benefits for HTPC users are dubious at best as the negatives far outweigh the positives.
Old LCD PC panels slower than a 12 ms response rate may benefit from ATI's implementation though be prepared for some serious ghosting and artifacting playing an FPS like Team Fortress 2.
