Ipad for Australia

Initially I was a bit underwhelmed at the announcement of the Ipad, compared to similar devices such as the Archos, Apples new offering seemed a bit limiting in the tech specs department. The recent US Ipad launch and subsequent media frenzy has been intriguing with a massive amount of apps demonstrated, some that are simply downright clever. Ebooks like Alice in Wonderland appear to be the perfect thing to bring the magical world of reading into the new age.

Exciting me even more is the possibility of using devices like these as a complete home theater and home automation control panel. Boxee TV, the makers of the popular XBMC fork, have already announced their plans to bring Boxee TV to the ipad and Android platforms in the near future which is a definite sign of potential for these.

Unfortunately the Ipad is not yet available in Australia and may not be for a while due to its US success. This leaves Ebay the only way of getting your hands on one in Australia for a decent price, just be aware of the dubious fakes you may come across. Whether or not you wait for an Ipad or Android powered PDA device availability in Australia, there are many other options with similar functionality and it looks like the PDA is here to stay.
