Free Game of the month: Broken Sword 2.5

This months free Game (FGOTM) highlights the rather excellent Broken Sword 2.5.  A German made fan created tribute to the Broken Sword Series of adventure games.  The Devs are known as mindFactory, a group of talented Broken Sword fans which peaked at 15 active members toward the later stages of the games development.  The quality of this project certainly shines through.

Containing all the locations, humor and human elements that made the original game so great, Broken Sword 2.5 delivers on all fronts.  We have the familiar Scumm yet slicker type interface, a great musical score, clever and humorous puzzle solving, what more could you ask for in a free game.

English voice acting appears to be coming close to being released, but frankly playing with English subtitles is absolutely fine, a few translation errors, though easy to figure out - especially if you are an old school type gamer!

Plot

The past few months have been quite dire to George Stobbart.  First he had to leave Nico for one year because of an important trip to the USA, then his beloved grandfather died of a cancer.  But that's not the half of it.  When George receives a telegram from France he senses a foreboding evil.  The consigner is–Nicole Collard, Paris, France.  Is Nico dead!  "First my grandpa and now Nico?", George get on the first available plane to Paris.

George's arrival is greeted by belting Rain and ominous storm, setting the mood for something  sinister.  In Nico's apartment - a shock: Nico is alive. Totally bewildered he tells her about the telegram but Nico seems not to be surprised. On the contrary, she asks George to leave the apartment. She does not seem to take delight in the unexpected reunion.

Still sorting his thoughts in the Cafe della Chandelle Verte–where everything began–George hears an alarming story about Nico from Andre Lobineau - Do the Neo-Templars still exist?
