Byteside FPS perspective

Australia's premiere Technology and Gaming show, Byteside have a healthy discussion in regards to the FPS genre and its impact on gaming culture and the perception of FPS gamers as a whole.  The console shift in regards to this genre from my perspective, has had the negative impact of actually dumbing down FPS games in order to compensate for the technical limitations of console gaming.  This isn't necessarily a bad thing as most gamers these days would fit the casual gaming audience though this does have it's downsides.  The PC platform is innovative in regards to game conception - particularly in creating and evolutionising the FPS genre: Would a game like Deus Ex, the original RPG/FPS hybrid be made in a console only world or would it have been released similar to the ultimately dissapointing Deus Ex 2 (a game made for consoles)

All I can say is thank god we halve PC friendly Devs like Valve who take PC FPS gaming seriously and are extremly successful making the PC a platform in its own right through the use of Steam.
