I have been using Power DVD  for a while on my HTPC mostly due to the ability to hardware decode High Definition content like h264 using only your Graphics card – utilising next to no CPU cycles.  This method works with Xp & Vista Media Centre and Open Source HTPC frontends such as Mediaportal.

For those into the High end HTPC arena, Power DVD now supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.  You will need a Soundcard like the Auzentech X-Fi HomeTheater HD in order to achieve proper Bitstreaming of HD audio.  Series 5 ATI cards may be a possibility though I need to get one first in order to test if it will work.
